A series of images captured during the winter in the waters off the south shore of Kauai Island, Hawaii. The Humpbacks frequent the Hawaiian Islands in the winter, and then return to Alaska in the spring. The dorsal fin on a Humpback is closer to their tail than their mouth, giving you an idea of the size of these amazing animals.
Alan Hart - Photographer: After many years of film photography with a focus on mountaineering in the western U.S., I moved to digital photography in 2007. My photography has since been focused on landscapes, architecture, wildlife, and flora and is now venturing into the abstract. I enjoy black & white photography just as much as color with each having its own strength. Traveling throughout the U.S. and across the world has generated a wide variety of photographic subjects over the last four decades . . . but there are always more images to see and capture and pictures to make.
